Many thanks for all of your stories and comments! We will be in touch directly if we would to include your items in the documentary
Bombora Film and Music co & The Monkeys are making a documentary for the ABC about Mambo’s humble beginnings and it’s path to success up until the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. We’d love to hear from you.
Did you wear Mambo clothes in the years from 1985 – 2000?
This subversive bunch of artist ratbags seemed to con their way into the Olympic Ceremony, and onto our shirtfronts. We think it’s a great documentary story.
But we can’t have artists just talking about themselves and their art. That would be too easy!
What we need is REAL people who loved their Mambo t-shirts, shorts, whatever – to stand up and be interviewed.
Did you have the farting dog on your chest? Did you appal your religious friends with Australian Jesus? The classic Pauline Hansen Redneck tee? Do you have a favorite after all these years?
Did you meet the love of your life, watch your beloved football team win or lose a grand final, buy your first car, ride the best wave or totally humiliate yourself whilst wearing Mambo? Did you cringe when you saw your Dad and his mates on the wrong side of 40, in both years and waist inches stroll into the BBQ wearing a loud shirt and matching boardies? Did the Mambo t-shirts with a hard nod to the left represent everything you stood for? Or everything that annoyed you? Then we’d love to hear from you! If you still own that piece of clothing – even better.
Please send us an email telling us about yourself and your most memorable Mambo story. If your story excites us we’d like to film you for our documentary which we’ll be shooting in Sydney in the next few weeks, so get in quick.
